Creative Journal – Self Start
Why not get started straight away? All you need are some pencils, pens or gel pens and some plain unlined pages ideally in a journal (but a few loose A4 sheets are all you need to get started.)
I recommend the 5 ‘R’ ROUTINE as a way to set you on your way.
1 READY
Make a decision:
What ‘tools’ or media do you want to use?
Pencil, pen, crayons, paint etc
2 RELAX
Breathe – be quiet for a moment
3 ROOT
Note the date (it’s really worth it!)
Give the page a theme, headline or title
If appropriate set the scene with a subtitle or image
4 RECORD
Record in a way that SUITS YOU
WORDS
e.g. Prose, poetry, graffiti, etc.
BEYOND WORDS
e.g. Doodle, icons
Images – imaginary, photo, from a magazine
draw, paint, etc.
5 REFLECT
Pause – look at what you have produced
SO:
How do I feel about what I have done?
Is there anything I can learn from this?
What action, if any, do I need to take?
